Treatments For Hearing Loss

The most common form of Hearing loss in adults usually occurs gradually over a long period of time and is not immediately noticed by the person involved.

The main symptons you will have if you have any form of hearing loss are that:-You find it difficult to hear individual voices in a crowd, You continually ask people to repeat what they have just said. You have to turn the TV sound up, which may be too loud for others in the room. You find it difficult to hear high frequency sounds in music or low frequency sounds.

To treat this type of hearing loss a Hearing Aid is usually recommended.  If your hearing loss has progressed so that a Hearing Aid would be necessary it must be understood that no Hearing Aid will ever replace normal hearing in all situations.  Before choosing the most suitable Hearing Aid, a hearing test should be undertaken to decide the particular difficulties you are experiencing.  The Hearing Aid can then be programmed to overcome particular hearing loss areas. You will also need time to get used to the Hearing Aid as it may dramatically change what you are used to hearing.

Other factors that may cause hearing loss are – Blockage in the ear channel or damage to parts of the middle ear.

Depending on the cause of the loss of hearing, treatments will be very different.  If there is a blockage in the ear channel, your local G.P. will investigate it using a special tool.  In many cases it will be a build up of wax that can easily be removed, or a slight swelling, blocking the channel, which can be cured by antibiotics.

Damage to the ear drum cannot usually be repaired. Damage to parts of the middle or inner ear will also be difficult to cure.  Depending on the damage sustained and the amount of hearing loss an appropriate Hearing Aid will nearly always overcome a lot of the problem.

Although Hearing Aids can overcome most problems of hearing loss it is always advisable to consult your G.P. before going to the expense of purchasing one
